Edit of CAT form. You can, soon

The glitches in the online applications system for Common Admission Test (CAT) are being resolved. Students will now have a chance to edit their forms as many times as they wish to within the window period and then submit.

The date after which forms can be edited will be put up on the CAT website soon. Earlier, applications submitted with simpler mistakes like spelling errors and wrong marks could not be undone.

Thus, aspirants had to buy a new voucher worth Rs 1,400 if they wanted to edit the form.

“Students need not panic. The system is being reloaded after which it will allow aspirants to edit the forms,” said Satish Deodhar from Indian Institute of Management- Ahmedabad, which is in charge of managing the admission process.

Students were relieved after they saw the update on the website on Thursday.

“I told all my students not to buy a second form,” said Arkss Srinivas of TIME Institute that coaches IIM aspirants.

“In Mumbai itself about 50 students contacted me saying that they had submitted their forms with silly errors and the helpline gave them an automated response to buy another form,” Srinivas added.

This is the first year of online exams for CAT and the exam will be conducted in two sessions for 10 days from November 28 in centres across the country.

Aspirants are complaining that there aren’t enough examination centres.

Mumbai has five centres, Navi Mumbai has six and Delhi has seven, Ghaziabad has six and Greater Noida has four.

“The number of centres across the country have been reduced because this time the examination is spread over a period of ten days with two sessions. So, effectively there are 20 sessions for students,” added Deodhar.
